Violence against women

Editor,

Every hour of the day a female is being killed by a male in our country. I’ve asked myself what is it with men’s love of killing? – killing women, killing animals sometimes just for sport (in both cases).

There are many theories. Years ago, the male anthropologist Ashley Montagu wrote a book, Men’s Fear of Women, expressing many ideas, one being that we lash out at what we fear – humans and animals. Another theory is that a violence gene has worked its way into our gene pool and is more prevalent in men.

Please don’t bring up Aileen Wuornos again. I’m tired of hearing that one name.

Did you know that more women were killed in domestic violence situations than soldiers killed in the Iraq War over the same time period? That is not counting all the females killed by men in other situations.

If there is even one female in a family, you would think that at least that family would be concerned about this epidemic.
