With few contests at stake in the Democratic primary, Carroll County voters overwhelmingly chose to cast their ballots in the Republican primary. The Republican side featured a three-way race for sheriff and a pair of legislators seeking a state senate seat. Almost 80 percent of voters asked for a Republican ballot.

Incumbent Sen. Bryan King drew more than 60 percent of the Carroll County votes for Senate District 5, but lost to Rep. Bob Ballinger by an overall total of 4.223 to 3,839.

Jim Ross and Alan Hoos will meet in a run-off election on June 19 to determine the Republican candidate for sheriff. Ross drew 45 percent of votes, followed by Hoos with 35 percent and Jack Gentry, Jr. with 20 percent.

Green Forest Mayor Charlie Reece will challenge incumbent County Judge Sam Barr in the fall. Reece took 57 percent of the vote against Duane Coatney.

County Clerk Jamie Correia won the Democratic nomination to retain her position with 56 percent, defeating challenger Deana Davidson.

For the first time, voters chose their school board members during the primary, instead of a special election. Jason Morris took 67 percent of the vote to defeat Jack Moyer for Eureka Springs School Board Position 4, At Large. In Berryville, Jeff Tanksley won 53 percent of the vote for School Board Position 1, At Large. Bud Phillips retained his position on the Green Forest school board with 54 percent.

Incumbent Steve Womack took 80 percent of the votes for U.S. Congress District 3, and Gov. Asa Hutchinson won with 75 percent, and will face Democratic candidate Jared Henderson in November. Keith Slape and Donald Ragland will meet in a runoff for State Representative District 83.

The results of Tuesday’s election do not become official until certified by the Carroll County Election Commission.
