The Woodpeckers Swan Song at Legends

619

The Woodpeckers came to life when a group of friends, all 1970s’ alumni of Little Rock’s Hall High, combined years of musical experience to create a true Rock ‘n Roll outfit modeled after The Allman Brothers Band. A testament to their talent, they soon became the house band for Cajun’s Wharf, a nightlife legend in our state capital. Woody Dixon and Mark Farmer lead with guitar and vocals that drive this old time rock ‘n roll. Frank Cox, who Dixon describes as “our best guitar player,” sets rhythm on bass guitar. Andy Bowie, known as Mississippi Saxophone Slim, blows harmonica that adds depth and authenticity to the Woodpeckers sound. On keyboards and vocals is Ben Moody, whose name may sound familiar – his son of the same name gained fame with Little Rock band Evanescence. Last but never least is the drummer, Jack Pritchett, a huge talent and band director at Little Rock Catholic High.

After five years of rocking, The Woodpeckers are sadly coming to an end, as guitarist Woody Dixon retired to our lovely village about a month ago. Legends Saloon is hosting a farewell concert on Saturday at 9 p.m. and welcomes all Woodpecker fans to send them off in style.
