In the dictionary the word jig is defined as a fishing lure or a lively dance, but the band at Chelsea’s this weekend called The 1 oz. Jig is a funky soul band from Fayetteville that has an awesome horn section. Playing what they call Backwood Soul & Funk, the songs written by Jeff Kearney are backed up by trombone, trumpet, keys, bass and drums, with Kearney himself on guitar. The musicians are flexible, ad libbing from time to time, but the songs are lyric driven unlike a lot of jam bands. These music creators claim to have a foolproof dance formula and audience participation. The Jigs play at Chelsea’s on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. and why would you miss a band that puts the “fun” back in funk?
