For 30 years drummer James Curtis has been enticing some of Dallas’s best musicians to hit the road with him. These bluesmen come together to bring us sweet Texas jams that combine years of experience with the fun of playing with friends. Gathering Barflies from every town they play, this never recorded and never the same show is grounded by the expert beat of Curtis’s drums. Jackie Don Loe is out front with electrified licks and showmanship that grabs the crowd for a fun ride. Pete Barbeck has a blues guitar and vocals that seem to come from another era and Mike Johnson adds soul as the horn section, thrilling with his saxophones (he plays two) and flute. The bass beat is provided by the cool cat Mr. D and local barflies, such as Kevin White, Lynn Sterling, Zach Bramhall and Dena Sunday-White, always land on stage for a few songs, if not the whole show. While visiting small towns like Eureka, Curtis says “We love to play for the locals, making sure that the folks who are on their feet all day working can let loose and have fun.”
They will be at Legends on Saturday, starting at 9 p.m., for the Legendary Howloween Costume Party. Come dressed as the best and win, cash prizes are awarded and spooky fun is guaranteed.
