Stories that are good to know

Editor,

I thank the local historical society for another production of Voices from the Silent City. I don’t attend local events nearly as much as I should, but this one is on my Don’t-Miss list.

It’s an opportunity to briefly step outside our chaotic world and interface with some of the residents of the Silent City who lived in the same spaces we do, but in a different time. It’s always a learning experience but the portrayals of these people in period costume, and the setting, give it a touch of magic as well.

Our big, sprawling, historic cemetery is a local treasure. So, if you don’t make it to “Voices,” just go out and walk around some nice day. It’s a great place to read a book or walk your dog (leashes and pooper-scoopers, please), or just sit and think.

There are over 4,000 residents there and each one of them has a story to tell. And they won’t bother you or try to sell you anything if you just want to be left alone.
