Still on the Hill: Ambassadors of the Ozarks

441

The 70th Annual Ozark Folk Festival is celebrated Nov. 7-10 and starts with The Hedgehoppers at The Aud, a fun clogging tradition performed by the third graders of Eureka Springs Elementary. There are music venues around town, free music in the park and a festival fair at the Community Center that includes a show-and-tell presentation on the history of Ozark instrument makers.

Still on the Hill is the storytelling–songwriting duo of Donna and Kelly Mulhollan, who bring true folk sounds played on a multitude of instruments – guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, mule jawbone and Ozark pickin’ bow to name a few. In addition to 11 successful CDs, the Fayetteville band has completed four projects that incorporate unique songwriting history and stress the importance of preservation. For example, the 2015 Once A River release was a history of the Beaver Lake Watershed and White River that promotes the safeguarding of this precious resource. Still A River is the 2016 project of the same ilk that documents the Buffalo River. Impressed by their work, the National Park Service asked the duo to do more of these projects, the most recent being the Cane Hill Project which documents the role a small Washington County town played in history.

As part of the folk festival, Still on the Hill is performing a free show at The Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 9 and the first 100 people through the door will receive free CDs. The Ozark Highballers will open the show, which starts at 7 p.m.
