On March 7, the Eureka Springs girls’ and boys’ soccer teams had their first home games against 5A school Prairie Grove. The girls’ team lost 7-0, while the boys won 5-1. This was the girls’ third game and the boys’ first. Coach Earl Hyatt will coach both teams for his second year.

This year, both teams are looking forward to the season in a 3A conference. In previous years, both teams have played in a 4A conference and competed with larger schools such as Berryville.

After the game, Ana Tapia, a senior and captain of the girls’ team, said, “The girls fought till the final minute.” “It was harder than I thought it would be,” freshman Lily Torgerson said.

Even though the girls lost the game, they never gave up. They fought until the end, and they hope to improve and come back even better.

In the boys’ game, senior captain Isaiah McCurry said, “The defense stopped almost every run they [Prairie Grove] had. The boys fought to the end like it was 0-0 the whole game.”

“The boys worked hard together,” Austin Moloney said. “We communicated really well and I think the season is going to go really well, especially if we play like we did the first game.” Overall, both teams were proud of their performance and are looking forward to the next game.

On March 14, the boys travel and take on Lifeway Christian in Centerton. This will be their second scrimmage game and their first away game, and the last game before Spring Break.

Come support the Highlanders as they take on Lifeway Christian, face Berryville away on March 25, and play their first home conference game against Lead Hill March 26.
