Rozella VerLee Guthrie, “Lee,” age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Lee was strong, creative, and independent. She loved her family.
She had a long career in banking, beginning as a teller and retiring as vice president of First National Bank of Wheaton, Illinois.
Lee loved playing bridge, watercolor painting, entertaining, sports, and spending time with family and friends. She was active in her community through the Holiday Island Golf Association, the Elks, and the Red Hat Society.
Her faith was important throughout her life. She will be remembered most for the love she gave as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Sometimes, you just want to talk to your mom.
Lee is survived by her children, Terri Lyn Guthrie, Todd Jay Guthrie, and Jill Renee Guthrie Galyen and her son-in-law, Jay Galyen; her grandchildren, Jace Allan Guthrie, Tyler Ryan Guthrie, and Dallas Lee Galyen; her great-grandchildren, Nora Renne Killcrece and Kenna June Killcrece; and her sister, Louise Novack.
Lee was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Guthrie; her parents, Gilbert and Hazel Kjer; and her sister, Donna Serneck.
Lee will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her family finds comfort knowing she is at peace.

Memorial donations may be made to the family to help with final expenses to Nelsons Funeral Service on behalf of Lee’s family.
