Raise the wage

Editor,

$15 an hour is a gross pay; the net pay is usually 30% less or $10.50 per hour. Which for a fulltime worker is $420 a week to take home for a 40-hour work week.

$10 an hour gross pay is $7 per hour net pay or $280 a week take home pay for a 40-hour week.

Take home pay is spent on transportation to and from the job, rent, food, clothes and health insurance or doctors and drugs.

These proposals to “possibly” raise the minimum wage amount are to be “phased in” over 5 years.

How is it fair to ask people to work for these wages?
