At the April 24 meeting, Planning commissioners reviewed a list prepared by City Economic Development Coordinator Glenna Booth of venues licensed to perform weddings. The goal is to clarify what Booth said was because weddings have been conducted at sites either without a license or at sites which formerly had a license, but changed hands and the new owners did not renew the license.
To complete the task, commissioners are asking anyone with a permit to perform weddings in residential zones not on this list to inform Booth:
Address Business Owner
46 Hillside Angel at Rose Hall Misavage
60 Hillside Arsenic & Old Lace Breitling
263 Spring Bridgeford House Hicks
2 Armstrong Eureka Downtown Suites Bright
4 Fairmount Eureka Weddings Seeligson
5 Ojo 5 Ojo Inn Harman
105 Jordan Garden of Dreams Gallia
23 Hillside Hidden Springs Speed
56 Hillside Inn at Rose Hall Kaye
7 Kingshighway Red Bud Manor Pappas
262 Spring Rosalie House Ragsdell
Commissioners intend to complete the list and send it to council by the end of May. Once approved the list will be included in City Code.
Commissioners also approved revisions to Code:
- This definition applies to establishments with Wedding Venue Business Licenses in R-1, R-2 and R-3 zones.
- For purposes of this section, a wedding ceremony is defined as the religious or civil marriage ceremony and accompanying festivities. These ceremonies and festivities must be held inside the venue structure, on attached porches and decks, on hard-surfaced areas adjoining the venue structure (patios/steps/parking areas), lawns and gardens or in permanent gazebos on the property. In no case can tents, canopies or temporary portable structures be assembled or used.
- No portion of the marriage ceremony and associated festivities shall take place outdoors between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. Small personal speakers may be used.
- The maximum number of attendees will be determined by a Municipal Code requirement in 14.08.06 Parking Requirements. Street parking is not allowed.

Commissioner Tom Buford said it was also mentioned at the city council meeting that Planning had discussed whether Benton Street should be striped as they had suggested for Spring Street, and whether Benton should be made into a one-way going uphill as an alternative way to leave downtown.
Harman remembered parking on Benton being mentioned casually in a conversation, not a discussion, and commissioner Woodie Acord remarked, “There’s not much parking up there.” Commissioners were unsure about continuing pursuant to direction from council. However, commissioners did vote to recommend striping on Spring Street be extended all the way to Harmon Park.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, May 8, at 6 p.m.
