Economic Development Coordinator Glenna Booth researched city records to produce 11 addresses with a business license to perform weddings, she told Planning commissioners at the Feb. 27 meeting. She pointed out this list was only a starting point for working toward compiling who can perform weddings in town, adding that addresses with Conditional Use Permits were not necessarily on the list. She said even properties with a grandfathered status as a wedding venue must still have a business license, but the owners might be unaware.
Booth said those with a license but no CUP, those with both, plus the grandfathered ones, has gotten “all mushed together” over the years, but her list of sorting was going forward. Once commissioners are satisfied they have a complete list, it can be included in City Code.
Commissioner Susan Harman said the city needed to send a letter that included sections of Code to all wedding venues alerting them to the commission’s intent to clarify the mush. Chair Ann Sallee said she would work with Booth on the letter within the next 30 days.
