Park moves toward ferrying for cash

Justin Huss noted at the July 17 meeting that the Parks commission had voted to allow free rides on the shuttle system for the first two months but did not allocate the funds to cover the expense. He suggested they move $20,000 from the tax fund.

Chair Bill Featherstone insisted they set a date for when they would begin charging for the shuttle and publish the notice widely so no one is surprised, to which Christian Super added that a workshop was the place to decide on that date.

Commissioner Steven Foster asked where in the budget was the $20,000, and Huss did not specify. He explained he had at first wanted no part of running a shuttle service, so he looked for vendors to hire. He has since changed his mind completely because, for one reason, proceeds from the shuttle would be direct revenue. He said he envisions some very productive weekends, and is collecting data now on numbers from which to extrapolate his options.

Vote to allocate the $20,000 to subsidize the two months of shuttle service was 6-0-1, Foster voting to abstain.
