Alderman David Mitchell has called it quits after serving on city council since 2012, citing his belief in term limits. In a letter sent to Mayor Butch Berry this week, Mitchell said his resignation would allow council to appoint a replacement to serve out the rest of the year. Council does have the option of filling the seat now or letting it go unfilled until someone runs for the position in the November election. Council will make that decision at the Monday, July 23 meeting.
