Marie Biorn Sathrum died October 13, 2026. She and Husband Clint moved from Northfield, Minn., to Holiday Island in October of 1999.

Marie wrote: My life has been long and filled with music the whole way. Feelings of gratitude abound for parents, teachers, colleagues, a supportive husband, and lucky circumstances. A “Word of Wisdom’ to leave behind comes from my Dad: “Dogged Persistence is more important than looks or brains or talent.” ‘Tis true.

Here are some examples of our mother’s persistence towards the things she loved. Assistant Director Carroll County Community Foundation, Musical Director Eureka Springs Methodist Church, Musical Director Holiday Island, President of Opera in the Ozarks Guild, Eureka Springs Library fundraising/grant writing, Director/founder Northfield MN Arts Guild, managing and singing in the St. Olaf Choir and the Warland Singers, earning a Master of Arts in Voice Pedagogy, and nearly finishing a PhD on Stravinsky, as well as raising three children.

Her parents were Gladys Querna and Rev. Boral Biorn; children are Carl (Anne), Marit, and Paul; grandchildren, Erik, Ayanna; siblings Katherine Christensen, Joanne Everson (Dennis), Deborah Nelson Biorn, Sarah Pederson Biorn, Margaret Heck; and a host of wonderful friends.

Rather than flowers, memorials may be sent to the Music Ministry Endowment of E.S. Methodist Church c/o CCCF, 149 Huntsville Rd, Eureka Springs, AR72632 or to the Biorn Family Scholarship to St. Olaf College, 1520St Olaf Ave, Northfield, MN 55057 or to charity of choice.
