Chair Steve Holifield said at last week’s Historic District Commission meeting that he and City Preservation Officer Glenna Booth spoke at a recent Board of Realtors meeting to re-acquaint them with the history and activities of the HDC in an effort to improve cooperation. He said 25 Realtors were present, and suggested they revisit maybe once every quarter.
Booth announced the city received a Certified Local Government grant for attending trainings and for finishing their digitizing of property files. She said the digitized system works very well, and recognized former commissioner Wendi Super for organizing the project and scanning files. Commissioner Mark Ingram said he would find out what else needed to be done with digitization and report back.
Commissioner Dee Bright mentioned they never finished discussion about setting fines for various violations of the guidelines. Building Inspector Bobby Ray had told the commission it would help him enforce the guidelines if there were a more definite fine schedule. Holifield said they should have Ray be part of the discussion, and Booth said she would try to arrange Ray’s participation.
