The Sept. 16 meeting of the Historic District Commission included a brief discussion of possible changes. Chair Debbie Davis suggested holding a workshop to discuss alternative building methods and materials. She said the HDC should consider any changes that would prolong the life of buildings. She also mentioned a review of local standards for solar power.
Earlier in the evening, commissioners approved several projects. A property at 26 Ridgeway Ave. dates to 1909 and is considered contributing. Owner Jason Hubbell asked to replace 10 windows, and Commissioner Dee Bright pointed out that all the windows are part of an addition from 1970. All approved the application.
Owner Justin Reed received approval for a Level III project at Java Dudes Coffee Co.,116 E. Van Buren. He asked to add a roof over a drive-through and seating area.
At 3010 E. Van Buren, owner Greg Clark received approval for a rear deck and swinging bridge.
A work weekend is scheduled for Nov. 19-21 to complete the floor refinishing job in the basement of The Aud. Volunteers are needed, especially for the labor-intensive first day.
The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Level III applications were due Sept. 23, and Level II applications are due Sept. 30.
