HDC keeps meeting short and sweet

The Historic District Commission needed just 15 minutes to approve three projects last Wednesday.

None of the Level II applications required a site visit.

At 2 Spring St., the HDC had previously approved a rooftop deck for Beverly Foust. Architect Mickey Finefield told commissioners at the May 1 meeting that he would return with a description of materials for the project after checking with fire regulations. Instead of cedar posts, the project will use metal tubes painted black.

The roof over the deck will be metal, as Finefield said the metal roof would be cost-effective and meet with fire codes. Commissioner Dee Bright reminded the others that they had previously approved the project, as long as it complied with fire regulations, and all voted in favor.

At 9 Summit St., David Danvers asked to remove the railing from his front porch. He showed pictures of the house without the rail. The house, built in 1950, is non-contributing, and commissioners approved the request.

At 8 Washington St., Henry Branstetter received approval for a proposed fence and gate. His plans call for a pressed-point decorative metal fence of powder-coated steel, 40 inches high. The fence will be similar in appearance to a fence across the street.

The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19. Level III applications were due June 6, and other levels are due June 13.
