HDC back to full strength

New commissioners Judy Holden and John Nuckolls faced an easy agenda for their first Historic District Commission meeting Feb. 21 as six commissioners wasted no time approving these applications for Certificates of Appropriateness:

  • 29 Elk – replace upstairs door with window; enclose porch; new French doors; replace two windows; add rear deck; wood storm windows
  • 217B N. Main – add stairway
  • 2 Charles Circle – new storage shed
  • 107 E. Van Buren – new back door awning and stoop; demolish shed
  • 10 Eugenia – new fence

The commission also approved these items on the Consent Agenda:

  • 107 E. Van Buren – new signs
  • 12 ½ S. Main – change sign
  • 58 Spring – move sign

The Consent Agenda items are Level I applications that the City Preservation Officer believes to be in accordance with the design guidelines.

Chair Steve Holifield presented these Administrative Approvals, applications for repair and work involving no changes in materials but that include changes in roofing and paint colors:

  • 110 Spring – general maintenance and repair
  • 60 Mountain – extend COA six months
  • 29 Elk – repaint same colors
  • 107 E. Van Buren –refresh paint, repair fence
