HDC approves two historic renovations

Seven new applications were approved by the Historic District Commission at its March 15 meeting, and two applications, 12 Fuller and 17 Benton, involved renovation of structures that are pre-1900 structures in serious disrepair. These applications were approved:

  • 11 Hale – renew previously approved application to replace siding, new paint colors plus replace windows, doors
  • 35 Benton – rebuild front stonewall, re-use stone on rear wall; repair stone stairway
  • 12 Fuller – renew previously approved application for work on front porch; enclose lower level open space; add windows (approval contingent upon keeping door and two windows in the front)
  • 247 N. Main – new footbridge
  • 105 Breezy Point Circle – addition; roofline alterations; new windows, doors; new siding; re-roof; garage
  • 17 Benton – rear addition and extend across lower level porch; extend roof gable; add windows; add door; remove chimney; replace front porch in same materials; replace front steps, new material; re-roof, new material
  • 1 Frisco – new storage building

Commissioners approved these items on the Consent Agenda:

  • 67 S. Main – new sign
  • 32 Spring – new sign
  • 155 W. Van Buren – add counter to rear deck
  • 33 Ridgeway – new paint colors; new gutters

Consent Agenda items are Level I applications that the City Preservation Officer believes

to be in accordance with the design guidelines.

Chair Virgil Fowler presented the only Administrative Approval which is an application for repair or work involving no changes in materials or color but which includes changes in roofing color:

  • 13 Eureka – repave driveway

Fowler also read into the record suggested changes to the guidelines regarding code violation complaints. Commissioners will vote on the suggested changes at the next meeting.
