HDC approves three

The Historic District Commission cancelled its June 3 meeting for lack of a quorum. Despite no meeting earlier in the month, the June 17 HDC meeting only included three applications for consideration.

At 116 E. Van Buren, installation of a portable building was approved for Java Dudes Coffee Co. The building measures 10 by 12 ft. and will not have a permanent foundation. The outbuilding will be placed on existing asphalt.

Elizabeth Wicker spoke on behalf of owners Mary Ann and Ken Greene to add a carport 22 by 24 ft. at 4 Prospect Ave. That application was approved with little discussion.

The HDC also needed little discussion before approving a change to a previously approved application at 2 Mill Hollow Rd. Derek Drouillard and Robbin Polter had received approval last November for two accessory buildings. The application last week called for changing the roofs from asphalt shingles to standing-seam metal.

A workshop was scheduled for June 25-27 to continue restoration efforts on the basement floor in The Aud. Commissioner Dee Bright said the session may complete the floor project, although another weekend may be required. She encouraged volunteers, even if they can only contribute an hour or two. The Aud will celebrate its centennial next year.

The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. Level III applications were due June 18, and Level II applications were due June 24.
