Another excellent week of fishing weather, and fishing conditions continue to be very good all over this area.

On the White River, anglers will see much lower water levels. Which is excellent for people who like to wade-fish. But being in a boat, with the lower water, be aware of underwater obstacles and even structures. Rocks and gravel bars will be in shallower water and hitting them can damage the lower unit of a motor.

Trout are hungry and consolidated in deeper pockets on the river, so whether going by boat or fishing off the bank, your best bet is to use some sunrise-colored Power Eggs with a wax worm – that has been a favorite this week.

You could lure a brown trout out of hiding with soft-shell crawdads (keep the Rebel Wee Craw handy). The ruby midge has been producing nicely. Be sure you pull out your hopper flies, and the end of August and first of September is the best to offer grasshoppers, the trout are looking for them.

It would be a good time to go get crickets and do some bobber fishing on these small lakes that we are so fortunate to have this close around us. Lake Leatherwood is one of them, with 1610 acres which includes an 85-acre spring-fed lake.

The lake is formed by one of the largest hand-cut native limestone dams in the country. It has hiking trails, paddle boats, and playground just in case everyone in the family is not into fishing. Bring the camera.
