Hello all, I`m back from my fantasy trip from last week. I had a birthday trip to Captiva Florida. I have to say it was a blast. But it seems no matter where I travel to whenever I come back and I cross over the White River at Highway 62 bridge and/or see my beautiful Beaver Lake again a little voice inside my head that says, “Why did you ever leave this wonderland in the first place?” Happy to be home and getting back to business, catching fish here in Northwest Arkansas.

Temps are going to stay high. Stay hydrated, use sunscreen, wear a hat, and personally I wear a long sleeve shirt. A good way to stay cooler on the waters of the White River is to bring a bandana, towel, or cooling rags then dip them in the water and lay on the back of your neck. Or even better, dip your hat.

The trout in the White River have no idea how hot it is above their waters because the water stays a cool 45-53° all year long, even in July and August. Fish seem to bite the best in the morning and the evening time. When light is reduced, the fish becomes more active, and water temperatures cool allowing fish to more freely feed. Nighttime can also be very good, especially for big brown trout. Just like humans, fish search out shade from the beating sun.

A couple of tips to fish on hot summer days:

  1. Find the Shade
  2. Fish Fast
  3. Go Deep
  4. Fish at Night
  5. Fish the Shoreline
  6. And most important! Take Care of Yourself
  7. This week’s picture is of Joe and Merrie who came back to fish with Richard Lee Rusher again. This time Merrie’s sister, Bev, came along. She had fished for 18 years and not caught a single fish. Richard went quickly to work remedying that. Bev was on the first trout ever, first fish in over 18 years, and big fish of the day on her first cast. Merrie and Joe were right behind her ripping lips. He said, “What a wonderful evening with some great people. It’s a little cooler down on the river.”

Beaver Lake has been producing walleye, striper, crappie, and some nice catfish. Just have to stay deep right now where the colder waters are. Live bait is always a winner on any fish. But have heard some great reports on trolling crankbaits for multiple species.
