Repeat clients are my all-time favorite to take out fishing. There is a lift-off your chest, knowing what to expect and what they expect from you. A lot of time it feels like taking the family out for the day – catching up on the year’s events, how the kids have been, how did covid affect your year, when are you thinking of retiring, and on and on.

But with Steve Miller and the group he brings every year there was hardly any time to chat it up, they kept me busy netting fish after fish. The picture here was one of the gang members that Steve brought with him this year, including Aaron Cunningham – they have been friends since college days.

I really enjoy my time with this group of people. Even Steve said he does not remember a trip when we have caught that many fish in the past. They were all about catch-and-release, no time to wait on us cleaning the fish, they were off to watch OSU whoop up on West Virginia. So it was a win-win day for all.

I want to say a big thanks to Rance Carter with Huck Fin`s Fishing Guide Service for running our second boat for the group. Trout were abundant, and nightcrawlers were our key to success.

Bream fishing is on fire with red worms, also crickets if you can get your hands on them. Crappie fishing is only getting better, each week it is better than the last. They have reported catching them very shallow and still fairly deep. Look for structure, brush piles, trees 9-12 feet of depth. Vertical jigging seemed to work best for the jigs, and minnows this week.

Stripers are making the change as Beaver Lake starts to turn over. When the lake is turning, (a gradual process of deep water rising and surface water sinking) fishing can be tough. We should be getting into some topwater action soon. I can`t wait. I was fortunate last year to get into some of this action and it is soooo addictive.

The Kings River has been active. You will have to look long and hard to find a better smallmouth hot spot than the Kings River. I`m heading over there this week with my fly rod in hand.

My good friend Jim Spillman is coming into town this week to go fishing. We always seem to luck into something good. So I`m looking forward to next week’s report.

If you are looking to jump onto the boat and get some action give us a call (479) 363-9632 and be sure to look us up on Facebook at Custom Adventures Guide Service. And remember, take a kid fishing.
