Hello to all, hope everyone had a wonderful last week even in the rains. I really enjoy rainy days myself gives me a chance to rest up and snuggle with hubby and the doggies. We even started a fire a couple of times last week. Plus, when the rain happens it produces washoff from hills, revenues that wash into creeks then off into lakes and rivers, providing all the food sources they need and then some.

The mouth of the creeks is a great place to target any type of fish. Just take a day to go explore. We should all try this once a month. Whether it is sightseeing, hiking, hunting or fishing, just get outside and you will feel the difference. We have limitless opportunities to do this in our captivating area.

Like Tyler Steele took a day from over in this area and went to Cotter, Ark., exploring and struck “gold.” He caught this beautiful trout, yes this is a trout. It comes with many names that many different people call it.

There has been a lot of debate on the correct identification of the yellow trout that swim in the waters of Arkansas – banana trout, albino, palomino, or golden trout. There are very few in our river here. Easy to target if you can find them and because of their color, you can see them in the waters.

But they don`t always bite just like all trout. The primary trout in Arkansas are rainbow, brook, brown, cutthroat, in different rivers in Arkansas. But the golden trout are in Bull Shoals, near the Mt. Home, Arkansas, area, which has now induced tiger trout. Tiger trout is on my bucket list. I have gone twice with no success yet.

I have caught golden trout before but have never seen one this big, it weighed in at 5.4 pounds, caught on nightcrawlers. I`m telling you nightcrawlers are always a good backup to bring, if not primary.

Crappie reports are strong, crappie fishing keeps on getting better everywhere. They are catching fish on any structure in and around 7-15 feet. Jigs and minnows are working. They are having to hit lots of brush piles to fill a limit. You will find the fish and catch a few, then they turn negative. Move to the next pile, repeat, and move on again.

You can fill a limit or two if you do this according to Jon Conklin with FishOn Guide Service (479) 233-3474, I`m guessing I might have to call on him.

Stripers are fair to good on live bait. They are scattered, so best chance is with a guide. Topwater action for them should start any time. Topwater anything is my favorite.

Trout fishing below Beaver Dam is still hot we haven’t been seeing the big ones in the last week, but the numbers piled up. So, if it is for action for catch-and-release or harvesting for a great dinner, it`s happening.
