This week’s photo is all smiles because of my good friend Mike the Fly Guy with Mike`s fly fishing guide service.

Nagela Rasul from Dallas, Texas, came up with her boyfriend and soon to be father-in-law to do some fly fishing with Mike. It was Nagela’s first time fly fishing and boy did she hook up with the right guide.

She caught a 20+ lb. trout on her first outing. Mike is known for is his patience and compassion to make every trip with him having you want to come back for more. All you have to do is read his customer reviews on his website, also the pictures say it all.

The most consistent bite on Beaver Lake is catfish right now. While fishing for walleye pulling worm harnesses across flats and lake points, we seem to be pulling out more catfish than walleye. For some reason, not a lot of people fish the lake hard for walleye.

Beaver Lake walleye have been stocked by Game & Fish regularly for the last 10 years and all signs point to them doing very well and naturally reproducing now. In fact, AG&F has surveyed several over 10 pounds.

Walleye are a medium rate growth fish; a one year old fish is about 6 inches and a legal fish of 18 inches is about 6 years old. They start spawning at about 3 to 4 years of age, which gives them 3 to 4 good years of reproduction before they are legal to keep.

Walleye are highly nocturnal or low light predators with high feeding activity being dawn and dusk, or night and on overcast days. Anglers should concentrate their fishing for them in those times to maximize their chances. They can be caught at any time but those are the best times. That’s why I love fishing Beaver Lake you really never know what you are going to pull in.
