We had some nice weather for about a week and boy was it a nice break. But this week, August is going to show us what it`s all about with some temperatures feeling like close to 100°. The weekend should cool back to in the 80s.

Remember, down on the White River riverbanks it seems to feel about 10° cooler than it is on the hot pavement parking lot. And the trout are always happy in the 43-50° water that they play and eat in.

We had another great trip with Rick, who brought his family out this time to stack up the fish. As usual, the guys went with Richard Lee and the ladies went with me. Of course, we had to make it a competition.

The guys came away with the biggest trout and the gals won overall big fish with a nice walleye. A lot of slot limit fish were caught released back to be caught another day. Judging from all the smiles and the giant pile of fish they hauled home, we are pretty sure everyone was a winner.

Trout were biting on power bait in colors of sunrise/white with either a wax worm or nightcrawler attached. We also caught some of the trout and walleye trolling rainbow stick baits.

Trolling is one of my favorite ways to fish, to me it`s relaxing, also you never seem to know what you may pull in. I went trolling on Beaver Lake last week and ended up catching 5 different species walleye – White bass, Smallmouth, Largemouth, Rock bass. None of them were big monsters but the excitement of not knowing what’s on the end of your line was what did it for me.

Slab bream are being caught on Beaver and Lake Leatherwood on crickets and worms this past week. I think this week I`m heading out for some of this action. Crappie also was good minnows, jigs, really small stuff. Catfishing seems to be good right now on jugs and trotlines.
