The Beaver Lake Tailwater-White River was created when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed building Beaver Dam in1966. Water flowing from the base of the dam was too cold to support the native smallmouth bass and sunfish population, so trout were introduced to restore the fishery.

Beaver Tailwater provides excellent trout angling opportunities and supports a thriving tourism industry. Most bank fishers are familiar with the Dam Site ramp, Parker Bend, and Bertrand Access because of their easy walk-in points.

But lots of people have never seen or know much about the Beaver Tailwater Special Regulation Area.| Approximately ½-mile below Beaver Dam to approximately 100 yards upstream of Parker Bend Access, as indicated by signs. Not easy to access by foot.

Wading to this area is possible when they’re not generating. You can boat or float by kayak or canoes through this area at certain stages. For some reason, most people do just that, float right on through it. Some are confused about the regulations and don’t want to risk it. But if you take the time to read them, they are self-explanatory.

  • Only artificial lures or flies may be used
  • All hooking points must be barbless
  • Natural or scented baits are not allowed
  • Chumming is not allowed
  • Catching bait with bait tackle is not allowed

Some believe in this area you are unable to harvest your fish, but you can now. Some believe it`s a single barbless hook area, but it’s not anymore, you can use all hooks on the lure (they must have to be barbless). Some folks don’t want to ruin a lure or fly by de-barbing it but believe me it is worth it to fish this short area. This area has deep holes in it so let your choice of weapon sink some before retrieving it back in.
