The Kings River has three different events starting June 1, Smallmouth Shootout, Riverman School, and KRWP Cleanup.

The Smallmouth Shootout is a one-fly fishing tournament benefiting the Mayfly Project, a foster youth mentor program by Kings River Outfitters; Riverman School; and for KRWP Cleanup: Carroll County Cleanup meet at 1750 CR 306 on June 1 at 8 a.m. sharp. You might know this as the Life is Good Bridge. Potluck dinner and kayak raffle at 5 p.m.

Doug Allen “River Man” offers Learn to Fish on the beautiful Kings River near Eureka Springs on Saturdays June 1, June 8, and June 15. An adult women’s class is Saturday, June 29. Drop your kids off at 10 a.m., followed by a one-mile hike, learning about the river, catching and identifying bait, having a shore lunch, catching bait, catching fish, and ending the day with a group swim. The Kings is a shallow and safe river for lessons in wade fishing. I will spend time with one-on-one lessons on carefully baiting hook, simple casting techniques and practicing catch-and-release.

Limit 10 kids, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. BYO lunch and beverage. Make sure kids have sunscreen applied. Shorts and old tennis shoes are best apparel. No sandals! Bring a towel. Rain or high water level may require rescheduling. Two to three adults at all times according to how many signed up. No fishing license needed.

$100 per kid with proceeds providing fishing equipment and other educational materials for classes and expenses. Payment secures a spot, first come first serve basis. Cash, check or Venmo accepted.

Each kid will receive their own fishing pole, tackle bag with tackle, Riverman hat, and a signed copy of The Riverman’s Guide to the Kings River or a Riverman’s Fishing Logbook.

Sponsorships available for anyone who can’t afford the fee, so don’t let this be an obstacle.

Email doug@oleforjoses.com or call me at (479) 790-6491. Will also accept donations to sponsor a kid or extra fishing tackle you can contribute.

Also – the floodgates are open at Beaver Lake and Beaver tailwaters, so the White River is flowing. It cuts out bank and wade fishing, but if you have a boat, it can be the best fishing on the White right now.

I’ll keep reminding you of these events. If you need help getting out on the water or finding that ride guide for any fish, give me a call, I have guides lined up. Custom Adventures Guide Service at (479) 244-5259.
