I’m hoping you’ve all been out in this beautiful weather in the beautiful Ozarks. The last weeks and the next month, maybe more, will be some exciting times for fishing. Spring is fishing time in Arkansas. So many exciting game fish species inhabit our rivers, lakes, ponds and streams, and the best time to catch them begins now.

If you know seasonal spawning patterns on your favorite waters, you can target one or multiple species from mid-February to mid-May. My favorite place to be this time of the year is the Beaver tailwaters. The White River holds rainbow and Brown trout, walleye, white bass, gar, spoonbill and suckers. This time of the year they travel from Table Rock Lake up the White River to spawn. Picture worthy fish have been caught below the dam whether you are wading or in a boat.

Fish trying to spawn is an external method of reproduction where females travel up creek and river arms to the shallows and release many unfertilized eggs. At the same time, a male or many males release sperm which fertilizes some of these eggs.

The walleye have already traveled past Houseman towards the dam, and white bass are following right behind. They say when the redbud trees bloom, the white bass will be here.

Carl Caso and a client from Texas, caught a beauty of a brown trout on the White River, and released it. Carl has That Dam Guide service, a family-owned guide service on our home waters. You can depend on Carl and his uncle, Carl Tilley. They do conventional fly fishing and custom trips for walleye, white bass, and spoonbill. These guys go over and above, they are personable and know how to put you on the fish of your choice. Multiple species in one day is a bonus on the White River. Check out their Facebook page for more great pictures. That Dam Guide Service at (870) 350-3050.

Give me a call at Custom Adventures Guide Service (479) 244-5259 and remember we offer scenic sightseeing trips also on the river and lake.  Be safe, be kind and fish on!
