I hope everyone was out enjoying this wonderful fall time. The trees really are doing their thing for us this year, bright and beautiful. Remember to wear bright clothing when you’re out in or near the woods, for it is hunting season.

As the temperatures drop and the leaves change color, the thoughts of most Arkansans change gears and think of deer, ducks, squirrels, and other game. Fishing is put on the back burner, but the changing seasons and dropping temperatures will spur the fish of Arkansas into a feeding frenzy that can lead to some of the best angling days of the year.

They say that crappie fishing is only going to get better. I can’t wait. I have a spot reserved with Zieng next month for some fishing, I really cannot wait. He and his crew at Hooked On Fishing, LLC, are still out catching all types of fish this time of the year on Beaver Lake. They are known best for stripers like the one pictured this week, and also crappie.

But this past week I have seen walleye and catfish in some of the pictures on their website on Facebook, worth looking up. Tell them Lisa sent you.

Fall is a great time to be on the water. Not only are the fish actively feeding, but the crowds have also dwindled, and the scenery can be spectacular. I love winter fishing on Beaver just for that reason. Look for shad and fish will be near.

One of the most overlooked lures for fall fishing is a 3-inch paddletail grub. Fished on a ⅛-ounce jighead, a smoke or pearl grub will catch most any fish in the lake, including bass, crappie, white bass, stripers, and even an occasional catfish.

If White River fishing is your preference, fall-time fishing is your best chance ever to catch a big brown trout. The end of October and the first of November put the browns into a spawning mode. Jerk baits, streamers, and white jigs all large sizes are key lures for these fish.
