I want to tell you a little about the Norfork River located close to Mt. Home, Ark., a five-mile stretch of water that runs out of Norfork Lake and flows into the White River below Bull Shoals Lake. Norfork River has produced literally hundreds of 10-pound-plus brown trout, including a 34-pounder and a 38-pound, 9-ounce former world record that is still the second-largest brown trout ever recorded, worldwide.

The current state-record brook trout (5 pounds) also came from the North Fork, an excellent stream for boaters and bank fishermen. It also offers Dry Run Creek, one of the top streams in America, and is designed to accommodate easy access fishing for the mobility impaired and youngsters under 16.

Arkansas Game & Fish recently has done some shocking on Norfork River, they usually do this at night and this is one of the fish they produced.

Fish shocking is a technique used to temporarily attract and immobilize fish in an area to monitor and study them. The fish are collected, measured and weighed. For a period, the fish are disoriented, but then released back into their habitat.

I ran across them one night while I was night fishing, Beaver tailwater. Lights were everywhere, at first I thought it was aliens, but as we got closer we could see what they were doing. They were very friendly and didn’t mind us taking pictures.

They had a brown trout that was about ten pounds. AG&F also shocks walleye at a certain time of the year.

If you don’t want to make that drive or don’t have the time, our beautiful White River tailwater right here at home has been kicking it really good. The river is low, low. Fish are stuck in deep holes and are hungry.

We have been using orange, sunrise, and white power bait, tipping it with any type of worm.

Fly fishing been doing good with Crystal white woolly booger wrapped with a red neck, sow bugs, San Juan worms, colors red and light brown, also egg pattern in orange and peach colors.
