A five piece band out of Fayetteville, Groovement, brings big funk-rock sound to Chelsea’s this weekend. Named Best New Band and Best Funk Band in Northwest Arkansas, Groovement has played many festivals around the country, always returning home to the stellar George’s Majestic Lounge. They were recruited to be a part of Caloundra, Australia’s premiere music festival, after being spotted in New Orleans during last year’s Jazz Festival. With a setlist heavy on originals, they incorporate funky dance grooves, high-energy rock ‘n roll and a flexible jam band style of improvisation that ensures no show is exactly the same. Influenced by horn sounds like Chicago and Lettuce, a skilled trumpeter gives them brass incorporated in surprising places. You won’t be able to sit still when those funky beats start, what else could be expected from a group of musicians who all wanted to be Michael Jackson before they could walk?
