This push led by the Chamber of Commerce to create a permanent entertainment district has gone too far and is getting in the way of important city business. I’ve noticed that some council members are getting weary of it and I’m one of them!
I knew that when the Chamber took it upon themselves to draft ordinances for the council. Each time we hear the same stories “people are already drinking on the street so let’s just make it legal,” they have said this several times. Another is “we are working with the Police Chief and Public Works.” Well, I’ve spoken to the Police Chief and his story is different. The Chief told me that different members of the Chamber have kept submitting the same map of the proposed district after he has told them it was rejected.
Then there’s the evidence of abuse of temporary district rules. The Police Chief caught a person in Basin Park who had a glass beer bottle in his hand and a band on his wrist. When asked where he got the beer the man said he bought it at the Basin Park Hotel. A while later the same man had beer in a cup so did the bartender missed pouring the first one in a cup?
I was loud in my response to what I consider a whitewashing of the hazards of any entertainment district. No member of the Chamber has even polled the retailers who will be affected by this!
This campaign is not progressive! There are studies showing that public drinking leads to underage drinking. The removal of alcohol ads on TV and sports events are a response to this. I do not apologize for my rant at the last meeting, it had to be said!

Harry, you’re a violent leftist felon. You should be “weary” of yourself serving on city council. Who knows what type of violence you have planned for the future.
If you are weary of the public’s response, you shouldn’t be serving in a political position. The encouragement of opinions helps to shape the future. There will always be more than one opinion, hopefully.
