End of an era

Editor,

It started in 1984 when Linda Bandy wanted to open a video store like her sister had in south Arkansas. The original location was at the head of Shelton Drive and started with 50 VHS videos. Over the next six years she kept adding videos ‘til she outgrew the building. At that point she leased the space where Video Land has been for 27 years.

In 1994 Linda decided to sell the business. I had just gotten out of the Navy and wanted to move my family back from San Diego to my wonderful hometown I had grown up in. I was fortunate to get first shot at the video store since I had grown up with Linda’s son, Robbie.

In March 1995, my wife Raquel and I took over Video Land. We were young and had great ambitions of running our own business. We have been blessed to have run this business for 23 years.

We went through many changes, the biggest being the switch from VHS to DVD. Times and technology have changed and March 29 will be the last day to rent movies from the video store. We will be closing and moving on with new ventures.

March 30 – April 22 we’ll sell off the entire inventory and get the building ready for a new business. Don’s Discount Store will be opening the first week of May, and may they have as good of luck as we have!

I can’t thank all wonderful, loyal customers and community support enough. We have outlasted most video stores. There are only a few hundred left where once there were almost 30,000 video stores.

Thank you from the Reding family and Bella.
