Dropping a Line

Well, if you look close on the table you will see the $30 off show special which we are going to run until Halloween just because the water has cooled and the best fishing since April is back. But the phone’s not ringing.

Most the stripers on Beaver Lake are now being caught between Rocky Branch and the Prairie Creek area, so we have about a 45-minute drive to get to them, but it can sure be worth it since the water shallows as we head south. With that, the weights are coming off and the bait and rods and casting rods now have topwater lures tied on.

Most all the stripers we’ve caught over 30 pounds have been caught in the cooler months, with no thermocline to get below or bait dying in the hot surface water.

Here at the Island were also going to run $20 off on our trips since the walleye, bass and crappie are also enjoying the cooler water. Try for crappie closer to the shoreline now from 4 – 8 ft., do it deep with a jig or a minnow under a float. Look for the bass on the flats and the back of the creek arms, and walleye and white bass from the Island to Houseman Access, with the walleye closer to the bottom and the whites chasing the shad on top. Anything that looks like a shad or crawdad is catching.

If you want to keep any trout make sure you have a trout stamp. Also remember past the Houseman boat launch you have to have a trout stamp.

Well, I better get the boat ready. It’s not winter yet and the fall bite is on so take a kid fishing when you can. And dress warm.
