Dropping a Line

Fishing is hot but phones not ringing, so I’ve been chasing after a new boat motor. Ended up getting a deck boat to rig up.

Did get some family come to visit from San Diego so got a pic of Keone McDowell and daughter, Mia Mc Dowell, taking out Shiloh Chang and Trey Spelts who came a long way for some turkey.

Taking them out in boat Number 2 here at the Island hoping for some walleye. Maybe they can get us a pic of a big one for next week.

Well I might not of been out much this last week but I’ve been listening. I have some buddies catching their limits of stripers on Beaver Lake. Some up on this end still, and some around the Prairie Creek area. The bait is balling up and the fish are with them.

Water temps in the low 50s, so the top water bite is on and will be for a while. It’s the time you can see them roll on top then move in slow and quiet with your trolling motor. Put some big minnows out the back then start throwing your best big top water bait out the front.

Got a couple other buddies that have been doing pretty good catching walleye and crappie here at Holiday Island to Beavertown. Walleye are liking big minnows over worms, so moving slow with a minnow, jig or a combo of both can catch them. Trolling with some crank baits down about 12 ft. off the flats can also get some meat in the boat.

Crappie are being caught in the trees from 10 – 20 ft. deep on minnows and jigs. Some big Brown trout, along with rainbows, are being caught upriver on spoons, small crankbaits or just letting a bit of power bait tipped with a worm sit off the bottom.

We catch a lot of fish from now to Christmas. The lake has turned over, the water is cool and stabilized, and all are feeding up to put on their winter fat like a bear. Go with the sun, but stay for the sunset if you don’t see the sunrise. You should have a nice day along with a pic of the sun as it’s going over our beautiful Ozarks.
