Dropping a Line

Well, that rain over the weekend cooled down the water temp and put the fish in a feeding mood. Daniel and Lynn Timmons came down from St. John, Indiana, to enjoy a week here at Holiday Island, and had a great day Monday catching enough white bass and crappie to feed their guests who came down with them.

We were fogged in at our morning start so we just trolled crankbaits in Leatherwood Creak. We found out the water feeding in was cooler than the main lake with water temps about 72°, which was about 10 degrees cooler than just a week ago.

The graph was showing solid balls of baitfish through the whole water volume with fish right there with them. We caught just as many throwbacks as we did for the live well with a lot of Kentucky bass in the mix.

After about 3 hours of this we decided to head to Beavertown in search of some walleye off the flats, but the graph was so bare we decided to go back and finish up where we started, we knew that’s where the bait was.

It was a great fall day and there will be many more days like this before winter sets in, so enjoy.

My sidekick, Johnny Glantz, had a trip on Beaver the same day and pulled five stripers that gave them a total weight of over 100 lbs. Another guide I work with pulled nine big fish all within view of the dam.

Stripers have not moved south yet, so if you want to catch fish and stay close to town, now is a good time. We are now running two boats with other guides available to fish all waters here below the Missouri line, from the tailwaters for trout to the deeper waters of Beaver for those big stripers, so if you can’t get out on your own just give us a call and we will do our best to get youon the fish you desire.

Enjoy the fall, enjoy the colors and catch some fish.
