Dropping a Line

Well, we had a very slow week with no trips so here’s a pic of the fog bank from Beaver Dam last week. Seems we’re on the end of September which is a slow down for all here from the motels to the restaurants and the fishing.

So, I got a break to get prepared for what’s coming. Let’s see, we’ve got a crowd coming this weekend with Bike Blues and BBQ. That will help, then here comes October with the War Eagle Craft Fair which gives a lot of local business the best month of the year. I already have three trips booked that week by wives wanting to get their husbands out of their way so they can shop more.

As for fishing, October brings the cooler water along with our fall colors which most all enjoy and some drive miles to see. The fish will come out of their deep hiding spots to enjoy the shallows along the surface more. Striped and white bass will be busting the top in big schools as the water cools. The weights will come off as the top water bite turns on.

I really do enjoy the fall as much as the spring with the water temps running the same October through December as March through May, but most get that deer fever and fishing gets pushed back in their brain until spring as they load their rifles.

For now here at Holiday Island look at the edge of the flats more for the walleye and bass, also into the creek arms as the cooler rain water flows in. Going upriver past Beavertown when they are generating can also still pay off, but as we cool the generating will slow down as we use our air conditioners less.

Look for crappie in the standing timber down about 12 feet but moving closer to 8 feet as we cool more. Look for stripers on Beaver Lake from the dam to Point 6 off the river bends and flats still holding close to the river channel, then on the flats as mud October rolls our way.

Well, that’s it for this week. Enjoy Bikes Blues and BBQ and hopefully we have a big fish pic for you next week.
