Dropping a Line

We got on the stripers 4 days straight during the holiday weekend. We got hit good in the same spot near Point 5 each day with a different school of fish. One day we were on big schools of what we call teenagers from 20 – 28 inches long hitting multiple rods at the same time.

Then the next day not one fish that hit was under 30 inches long, like the big boys and girls came in and told those teenagers to go play somewhere else.

Pictured with our biggest 3 fish that made it to the boat caught by the Vallejo family from Enid, Okla. Oscar the father, Ben the son, and Sofia, the daughter got the biggest. The pic I had of all three holding their fish did not turn out as good as this one of Sofia.

Some pics just stand out. Very happy girl outfished the men.

Well, the water is hot so most stripers are now being caught from the dam to the Rocky Branch area on Beaver Lake. Shad, big shiners and perch can all catch, or anything you can get down close to 30 feet deep trolling, or jigging a spoon. Top water can still get them when they do surface at low light.

Did not get out here at Holiday Island last week but have a afternoon trip this Friday. We will probably start looking for crappie in the standing timber about 12 feet deep, then troll the flats between the Island and Beaver Town. After that might just head up river a bit as the sun sets lower in the sky following the schools of small shad just to see what we find under them.

Enjoy this week and take a dip if you need to cool down and don’t forget the kids and sunscreen.
