Dropping a Line

247

Well, we might of had some cool nights but we have had some warm spring rains to bring in some current and send the walleye, white bass and stripers upstream for their spawn. Bass and crappie are moving closer to the shoreline, with the bass liking the pea gravel and the crappie liking the brush.

Live minnows and shad or about anything that looks like a minnow will catch all. Just think shallow as long as the water keeps warming up.

Bottom fishing with a worm and power bait on the Beaver tailwaters is another way to get a limit of trout. Keep your eyes peeled for those walleye because they’re in the trout waters now ready to spawn.

Most walleye are caught in low light conditions which is the sunrise, sunset or fishing through the night, and remember they like pretty.

Looks like me and Bell will be going camping this Thursday following the spring striper spawn on Beaver Lake. Since most my weekend trips are up the river we are starting at Hickory Creek Park and then moving north as the water warms. I will still be up on this end of the lake and Holiday Island doing trips Tuesdays to Thursdays, then back up on this end full time in June as the stripers move back up closer to the dam.

Spring is here. The time has come. Get on the water and have some fun.
