Dropping a Line

If she will start, go for it. But that’s a bit cold for me, this cold weather has kept me in this week, along with most others, but one good note is according to the extended forecast, after this week it looks more like spring for the rest of March into April, with even saw some 70s down the road. We will see if that holds true.

Stripers and crappie were both being caught shallow up river on Beaver Lake before this front, but they will be hard to find this week with water temps dropping to the coldest all year. Just a few days of sun and the run is on, just warming the water up fast into next week.

I have one trip here at the Island for walleye on the 13th, then it’s eight striper trips already booked for the last two weeks of March. So I got me a camp trailer and will be staying at Hickory Creek Park near Springdale with the boat in the water where the big fish are. I think getting some weekly fish pics will be no problem.

For those who like to camp and fish, it’s a good place to also catch crappie just walking the shoreline from your camp. I will be towing back this way for those walleye and white bass running up river here at Holiday Island, if that’s what one wants.

The walleye are still in the river here heading to the dam. I don’t believe this cold front slowed them down much since that water is coming from the dam about 200 feet deep, so it is a warm water river now compared to the lake temps.

Walleye should spawn on our next full moon. After that, Spring is here and the whites, crappie and bass will all spawn soon after as the water keeps warming. My advice this week is to stay warm, but after this weekend then think fish. No matter what you fish for, they will be active again after just a few days of warmer weather.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks forward this Sunday. Then Spring starts on the calendar on the 20th and another winter has passed. I’m so happy and looking forward to some good camping and some big fish.
