Dropping a Line

301

Well, we’re still in the transition between summer and fall, so most fishermen are still enjoying the air conditioning. I’ve seen more fisherwomen catching out of kayaks this last week, guess they can take the heat a little more.

Thought I would do a bit on how lures have changed over the years so here’s some pics of some new ones compared to some old ones. We will be throwing the new ones of course when the phone decides to ring.

Amazing how these look and swim like the real thing. Nothing like what my dad threw back in the day.

Well, fish are being caught by those who are getting out. Best catches are before 9 a.m. on top for bass in water about 30 ft. deep, then a jig or spoon down closer to the bottom should get you a few more. If you prefer the evening I would suggest going upriver past Beaver town after 3 p.m. if they’re generating, the shad on top will tell you where to fish.

Stripers on Beaver Lake are still being caught between 30 – 40 ft. deep off the flats and points 30 – 50 ft. deep. Best places to look now are from Points 4 and 7.

I do believe as October comes around and the water cooks a bit more, we will be fishing back around the Hwy. 12 bridge area and Prairie Creek. We already have a lot of bait moving that way, so when the stripers follow the top water bite will be on and they will hold there waiting til Spring.

Well, this is running late so I better go.  Fall will be here next week and water will cool fast with the next coil front. I am ready. By the way, water temps are holding about 78° now. Even with these last days of summer it should cool before warming due to the daylight being shorter. Enjoy this last week of summer .
