Dropping a Line

240

Christopher Carroll from Virginia Beach, Va., put a nice striper in the boat this week, close to 20 lbs. at 34 inches long. We caught this one right in view of the dam Sunday morning before the rain hit.

Well, it looks like August is here and fall is not far away. These cool rights are already sparring to turn these fish on with water temps already dropping from 85° last week to 83° this week. Most fish are still wanting to spend most of their time below 28 feet, but seeing more bait and fish coming to the top to say Hi every day now.

So we say Hi back with a Big Spook. If that doesn’t get the, drop a spoon below.

Best shoreline fishing now is for catfish. Perch or trout in the tailwaters of Beaver. Look for bass. Walleye and crappie are still 18 to 28 feel deep, but they, too, are ready to move into shallower water.

To me the fall bite is as good as the spring bite, but if you want stripers close to home the summer bite is best now, with some big fish here close to the dam.

Well, I better go for now. Take a kid fishing when you can and don’t forget the swimsuits while it’s warm.
