Chris Meck spent years in the Kansas City music scene building a reputation as one of the best guitarists around in the role of sideman and session musician. Deciding to take the spotlight in 2013, he formed Chris Meck and the Guilty Birds. The role of singer/songwriter and frontman is new for Meck and he rocks it – the band released “It’s 4 a.m. Somewhere” in 2016 to critical acclaim.
Timothy Finn of the Kansas City Star wrote “It’s a collection of gritty, soul-infused rock songs with some blues accents that showcase Meck’s deft guitar work and the Birds’ bright girl-group harmonies.” The single “Destination Revolution” released in January 2017 shows intelligent and relevant songwriting set to some serious rock.
Meck is joined by bassist and vocalist Calandra Ysquierdo, a seasoned musician who has played and recorded with many of KC’s top acts. Tom Hudson on drums completes the trio – a percussionist since age 5 he is able to add subtle sound or head banging beats. This is good rock music, you can hear them at Chelsea’s on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
Local synth-rockers Fossils of Ancient Robots along with Barbarians of Tomorrow play at Chelsea’s on Wednesday, this show will be a lot of fun – I wouldn’t miss it!
