This time last year, Eric “Dirty Red” McDaniel and his band, the Soul Shakers, were walking the streets of Memphis, representing Oklahoma in the International Blues Challenge. Making it to the semi-finals ahead of 260 acts from around the world, McDaniel told The Lawton Constitution he felt baptized in the waters of the Mississippi with the blues dripping off his shoes. Old school influences are apparent in the down ‘n dirty style of this original sound.
McDaniel is the charismatic frontman with whiskey soaked vocals and a tight but slippery blues harmonica that he delivers with panache. Ike Lamb, with over 30 years experience, plays blues guitar that can speak to your soul or swing your hips, it’s no wonder he shared Best Record of the Year with Watermelon Slim and the Workers. The tight rhythm section is Forrest Worrell, a drummer from age 13, and John Stendel, who earned a degree in Bass Performance before joining the band at age 21.
