Darrell Dave Smith, 86, of Holiday Island, Ark., passed away October 20, 2020. Darrell was born February 17, 1934 in Emporia, Kan., to Cecil and Eva Marie Smith

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph Smith, and his son, Rodney.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lynette (Gariss) Smith of Holiday Island; son Randy Smith and wife, Debra, of Holiday Island; son Ron Smith of San Jose, Calif.; son Russell Smith of Redding, Calif.; and four grandchildren Tiffanie, Mat, Joshua and Marisa; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one niece Valerie Gautieri.

Darrell worked his entire career for Cooperatives in Kansas, retiring in 1989 from the Rolla Cooperative in Rolla, Kansas as General Manager, being responsible for three locations. Shortly after retirement Darrell and Lynette moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., for seven years before coming to Holiday Island in 1996 and building their retirement home.

Darrell loved fishing and was a past president of the Holiday Island Fun Fishermen. He was an avid gardener and every garden season had a huge crop of vegetables and fruits. Many neighbors enjoyed the fruits of his labor because he shared generously with them. Darrell also enjoyed golfing with his buddies at the nine-hole course on the “Island.”

Darrell and Lynette enjoyed ballroom dancing and were members of the Holiday Island Dance Group for several years. Their dance group actually performed for a homeowners social several years ago.

Darrell was a member of the Holiday Island Community Church since2001. Darrell was a member of the church “cooking team” for the Men’s Fellowship meetings.

Due to the Covid-19 virus a Memorial Service will be at a later date, hopefully in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Holiday Island Community Church, PO Box 3055, Holiday Island, AR 72631.
