Constables on Patrol

August 21

12:44 p.m. – Constable took a report regarding criminal mischief.

1:14 p.m. – In a neighborhood just off US 62 east of downtown, resident reported hearing fireworks. Constable searched that neighborhood and an adjoining one, but did not find anything to report.

4:09 p.m. – Bank employee reported receiving counterfeit money.

6:34 p.m. – Passerby told ESPD a parked vehicle still had its lights on.

6:43 p.m. – A mother asked for assistance with her daughter. Constable complied.

8:08 p.m. – Motorist headed to town from the north reported an erratic driver. Constables watched for but did not encounter the vehicle.

August 22

1:37 a.m. – Constable responded to a downtown bar because someone reported a possibly inebriated driver in an unknown make or model vehicle with an out-of-state license going in an unknown direction.

7:45 a.m. – Resident claimed a person for whom there was a protection order came into her house. Constables went to the scene for a report.

10:19 p.m. – Husband claimed his wife had fallen, hit her head on a rock and needed assistance. Constable and EMS arrived to find she had a head wound but did not need stitches and she refused to go to the hospital.

August 23

2:13 a.m. – Constable responded to a call about a noisy neighbor but nobody answered when he knocked on the door.

10:59 a.m. – Constable took a report of harassing communications.

August 24

12:47 a.m. – Alarm rang out at a business downtown, but the constable and manager found the building secure.

10:56 a.m. – Caller reported wire transfer fraud.

August 25

6:47 a.m. – Concerned onlooker said there were articles of clothing and personal items strewn all over a street above downtown. Constable went to check and found the area cleared except for a few items next to a tree.

2:31 p.m. – Constable went to a motel because of reported suspicious activity.

10:13 p.m. – A wife reported her husband was missing. A friend found his phone on the ground at the hotel. The husband later called from Joplin saying he was getting a room for the night there.

August 26

12:59 a.m. – Individual was lurking behind a business. He had already been asked to leave the premises. Constable responded, but the lurker was already gone.

1:20 a.m. – Person downtown was arrested for public intoxication.

9:18 a.m. – Another individual was arrested on an ESPD warrant.

2:11 p.m. – There was an accident in a parking lot.

2:34 p.m. – Central dispatch alerted ESPD to an erratic motorcyclist headed toward town from the south, but constables did not encounter the cyclist.

5:54 p.m. – Concerned person on Main Street suspected she smelled gas. ESFD responded.

11:33 p.m. – Resident near downtown complained about the noise coming from a nearby establishment. Constable found a wedding party relishing the evening, and he asked them to turn down their music. They went inside, closed the windows and carried on.

August 27

1:44 p.m. – Passerby noticed there were no cars in the parking lot of a business on the east side of town yet a side door was open. Constables went to the scene, called the owner and determined everything was okay.

2:54 p.m. – Innkeeper claimed illegal activity was occurring in one of the rooms. Constables responded and asked the guests to leave the premises and not come back.

4:37 p.m. – Diners ate their meals and left without paying at a restaurant downtown. Constable found the bolters who returned to pay for their food.
