Constables on Patrol

August 7

8:21 p.m. – Constable on patrol responded to a noise complaint in a neighborhood and asked a resident to turn down the music.

9:03 p.m. – Individual at a downtown establishment was having psychological issues. EMS transported him to ESH.

10:59 p.m. – Person being detained by Benton County sheriff’s office on an ESPD warrant was transported back to ESPD and then on to CCSO.

August 8

12:08 a.m. – Constable checked on a possible trespasser at an address near downtown.

1:59 a.m. – Call came from the same address, and again a constable checked for trespassers but found none.

5:43 a.m. – Constable assisted CCSO in watching for a particular vehicle on a rural road.

10:21 a.m. – Constable assisted a semi driver having difficulty escaping the Historic Loop.

11:43 a.m. – Individual reported receiving harassing communications from someone she had helped in the past. Constables put on extra patrols in the neighborhood.

4:58 p.m. – There was a two-vehicle accident on US 62 in front of ESFD. No injuries.

9:16 p.m. – Concerned observer saw a person who possibly had been looking through parked vehicles running away from a business and into the woods. Constable checked the property and vicinity.

9:39 p.m. – Motel guest fell and was apparently seizing and saying bizarre things. EMS transported her to ESH.

August 9

12:50 a.m. – Alarm was tripped at a business on US 62. Constable and keyholder responded and found the building secure.

6:50 a.m. – Domestic upheaval had reportedly continued through the night at a campsite at Lake Leatherwood. The couple assured the constable the event had been verbal only.

6:52 a.m. – The domestic disturbance this time was coming from an apartment in a neighborhood above downtown. When constable arrived, one person fled by jumping off a deck in the back. She was transported to ESH with injuries.

10:11 a.m. – Resident near downtown claimed a nearby dogs had been howling for an hour or so. While Animal Control was on his way, the complainant called back to say the dogs were finally quiet. Animal Control checked the area anyway.

10:35 a.m. – Constable filed a report of alleged abuse at a care facility.

11:21 a.m. – Individual reported items had been taken from his truck.

2:38 p.m. – There was a two-vehicle accident on US 62 on the east side of town.

7:30 p.m. – Innkeeper filed a report for missing property.

7:30 p.m. – Driver of a camping vehicle headed toward town nearly ran another vehicle off the road.

August 10

2:58 a.m. – Caller told ESPD she left her phone in a taxi.

5:47 a.m. – Several campers called in a domestic disturbance at Lake Leatherwood. The disturbers told the constable it had been a verbal event only.

12:54 p.m. – Person at a downtown business reported being the target of threatening comments.

1:58 p.m. – Motorist claimed a pickup had passed dangerously across double yellow lines on the way into town from the west. Constables never encountered the vehicle.

10:39 p.m. – Owner of a downtown establishment brought a female to the station who claimed her intoxicated boyfriend had choked her and then left her behind. The boyfriend was later arrested for DWI and aggravated assault.

August 11

11:12 a.m. – Motorist reported the vehicle behind her had crossed the center line, left the roadway, hit a road sign but continued down the road. Constable watched for but did not encounter the vehicle.

5:56 p.m. – Constable checked on two alarms at the same building and found the place secure.

8:49 p.m. – Central dispatch transferred a call about an altercation across from a downtown bar. Constable found two persons disputing who had broken the phone.

9:59 p.m. – A car found itself in a ditch in the commercial area along US 62. Tow truck pulled it out and everyone left.

August 12

9:56 a.m. – One vehicle backed into another one in a parking lot.

1:11 p.m. – Vehicle was parked in a red zone. Constable on patrol stopped by.

1:12 p.m. – Concerned citizen reported the door to a business was unlocked but no one was inside. Constable went to the scene and found the owner on site and the door locked.

1:48 p.m. – Constable asked a business owner to turn down the volume. Owner complied.

5:05 p.m. – Motorist headed toward town from the east called in an erratic driver. Constables never encountered it.

7:21 p.m. – Witness reported seeing a woman with a tool walk out of a well-worn van and toward an ATM. Van was gone when the constable arrived, and he found no signs of tampering.

11:12 p.m. – Traffic stop resulted in the arrest of the driver for DWI and driving left of center.

August 13

1:44 a.m. – Several concerned callers reported a drunk male in front of a downtown bar. Constable discovered the individual had fallen and incurred a laceration on his head. He refused treatment and was arrested for public intoxication and on an outstanding warrant for failure to pay fines.

8:40 p.m. – Front door alarm rang out at a residence. Resident called to cancel the alarm.

3:48 p.m. – Witness claimed individuals were going into a vacant building near downtown. Constable arrested one person for criminal trespass and possession of a controlled substance.

4:05 p.m. – One car banged into another in a parking lot.

5:12 p.m. – Someone complained about a loud group downtown, so constable spoke with the group about clamor.

6:13 p.m. – A bunch of folks called about an alarm going off at a downtown business, and the cop took care of it.

10:34 p.m. – Person at a tourist lodging reported hearing gunshots nearby. Constable responded, but nothing was happening.

August 14

12:36 a.m. – Constable spoke with a resident near downtown about a noise complaint. Resident agreed to comply.

1:09 a.m. – Resident did not comply. Nearby complainant claimed that besides the loud music and partying, there was a fight. Constables joined the party and arrested one individual for disorderly conduct.

1:38 a.m. – Noise complaint again about the same address but this time for a loud truck having mechanical distress. Constable returned to the scene, and the vehicle got a push out of the way and into a parking place.
