Clean it, we mean it

Editor,

I just came in from picking up two piles of my neighbor’s dog waste from right in front of my White Street storefront, so naturally I am excited to see in this week’s paper that the city council is considering purchasing more pet waste bag dispensers to place around town.

I suspect as usual, they are planning on only placing them in areas where they think tourists roam, but I would like to remind them that the upper loop is a tourist destination as well, and the pet waste situation is getting out of control up here.

My partner and I dutifully carry bags with us to pick up after our dogs, and often find ourselves picking up after other more irresponsible pet owners as we walk from Washington Street to the Crescent Hotel.

Yesterday we even saw that someone had bagged their dog’s poop and left it lying near a corner stop sign. Many residents (remember them?) along the upper loop have had to purchase and place signs asking owners to be responsible, but the signs disappear after a while for various reasons.

Please remind our administrators that the upper loop is a heavily trafficked part of the town as well, and deserves as much attention as the business district. It’s not all about doing a “nice, friendly thing for our guests.” Residents live here, too.
